The Watch List
Just like I did last year, I’m making a list of artists who will probably have breakout years in 2012. Also the most likely to make that XXL list that I never agree with.
1. Dom Kennedy
He was here last year. He was here year before last. And he’ll be here every year until he blows up. Sans Drake, he probably makes the best music in the game right now.
3. A$AP Rocky
This Harlem rapper came out of nowhere, and having a OVOXO co-sign doesn’t . either.
Blue collar Ohio native rose to the ranks with the release of Lincoln Way Nights. Also earned a spot on Maybach Music Group Roster
5. Gilbere Forte
Ecclectic MC/Producer/and nearly everything else from Philly.
Eyes of Veritas
6. Alley Boy
Face of the Duck Tape Entertainment camp and also the one who’s reviving Atlanta’s trap rap scene.
Kendrick Lamar’s long time running mate showed off his skills on the critically acclaimed Section 80 outro. Look out for more in the future.
The real star behind “Racks” and all the other music you love to hate right now.
Rapsody is one-fourth of underground group Kooley High and the only female MC on 9th Wonder’s Jamla imprint.
10. Don Trip
He became na internet sensation after releasing this video. Now he’s signed to Cool & Dre and poised for a big upcoming year.
11. Childish Gambino
You may know him as Troy from NBC sitcom “Community” or comedian Donald Glover.
Childish Gambino EP
12. Mr. Muthafuckin eXquire
He sounds like he’s the lost 10th member of the Wu Tang but raps over “interesting” beats.
The Big Fat Kill
If 3-6 Mafia was still making music in 3011, it would be this kid. He raps about strippers over random Mortal Kombat noises.
14. Casey Veggies
Former OF affiliate and recent high school graduate Casey Veggies has co-signs from nearly the entire west coast now.
15. Machine Gun Kelly
Machine Gun Kelly is known for his high energy and rapid fire delivery, both of which began his major label bidding war.
