Resurrection: The New Chicago

common-can_i_borrow_a_dollar-front1

A few months ago, everyone could agree that the West and the South were battling for dominance. Well…not anymore.

There’s a new leader on the hip-hop scene, and it’s an old familiar one, Chicago. After Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, and Sir Michael Rocks of the Cool Kids, there was a drop off of new talent, but not Chicago is Resurrected (Common reference fyi).

Here’s a few artists from Chicago that should be on your radar:

The Watch List

Just like I did last year, I’m making a list of artists who will probably have breakout years in 2012. Also the most likely to make that XXL list that I never agree with.

1. Dom Kennedy

He was here last year. He was here year before last. And he’ll be here every year until he blows up. Sans Drake, he probably makes the best music in the game right now.

Get Familiar (Artists you should know about)

I get asked 1000x a day “what new are you listening to?’. As an advocate of spreading good music, it’s my duty to point people in the direction of good music. Just in case you haven’t noticed, I really don’t listen to commercial hip hop, so I’ll show you some new artist flying under the radar worth checking out.
